Energy Efficient LightingAs the cost and environmental impact of energy becomes understood, it is important for everyone to minimize their energy and carbon "footprint". Luckily there are quite a few ways to do this with minimal effort. The demand for energy, especially clean energy, will only grow as populations increase, so supporting new technology and alternative energy programs is essential to our children's future. |
There are many new lighting technologies that save energy and last longer. Replacing standard bulbs with fluorescents is one and the newest is using LED or light emitting diode bulbs. LED's are still expensive, but dropping fast in price and their typical life of 40000 hours an 15% of the energy usage of a regular bulb, guarantees a fast payback. Many states now require florescent fixtures in new construction and many of our lights meet these requirements with no design changes. We encourage everyone to save energy where ever possible and putting in new light fixtures is the perfect time to do so
Here are a few ways to save energy:
1. Turn off lights when not in use. 2. Use energy saving bulbs such as compact fluorescents or LED's where ever possible 3. Use dimmers in rooms that do not always need bright light such as bathrooms or dining rooms. 4. Open windows and use ceiling fans at night when possible. 5. Turn down the temperature of hot water heater, especially during the summer 6. Keep the thermostats lower in winter and higher in summer. Temperature gain or loss is in direct relation to the temperature difference inside versus outside the house. |
